Learn about the RYA ICC assessment

Learn about some great courses you can take with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and how to get an ICC that will allow you to take your boat through Europe. This comes either with the completion of an RYA course or alternatively you can take an ICC assessment and earn the qualification this way.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) offers a range of courses for those that want to operate all different kinds of boats so that the captain of the vessel can safely and efficiently drive the powerboat or any other kind of boat around any area of Europe.

The International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft, or more commonly the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), will give you the ability to operate these different types of boats when abroad, and there are a range of different practical courses available to you. When you obtain your ICC it will be valid for five years, and will be sufficient evidence of competence when you are visiting any other country in Europe. It also works for those looking to charter.

You can easily arrange for an RYA ICC assessment through their website, and you can do this through an RYA training course or you can just take the ICC assessment to prove your competence. However, if you have undertaken one of the RYA’s courses like the Powerboat level 2 or the Day Skipper Practical Course then your ICC will be presented to you along with your qualification as the course in itself will demonstrate the required level of competence.

Take a look at the range of excellent RYA courses that are available to you or look into taking the ICC assessment to get your qualification so that you can go through Europe and demonstrate that you have the required level of ability to do so.
